Disney's "Pearl Harbor" Launches with a Lavish Party on an American Aircraft Carrier

PEARL HARBOR, Hawaii, May 21, 2001 - The $135-million, three-hour movie premiered on a screen six stories high on the deck of the Navy's newest nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, which is moored a few hundred yards from ground zero of the Dec. 7, 1941, bombing raid that brought the United States into World War II.

Aboard the USS John C. Stennis --So many sightings, so little time. Actors Dan Aykroyd and Tom Sizemore showed the Navy how to rock, commandeering the stage at Disney's mega-spectacular, $5-million "Pearl Harbor" premiere.

Country/pop star Faith Hill started out evening by singing the “Star-Spangled Banner” backed by an 80-piece orchestra. And Lee Greenwood belt out "I'm Proud to Be an American" during one of the biggest fireworks shows ever.


In addition to the usual suspects who turn up at every premiere, high-ranking officers from every one of America's armed forces as well as several Pearl Harbor survivors were feted at this incredible premiere.
