Disney's "Pearl Harbor" Launches with a Lavish Party
on an American Aircraft Carrier PEARL
HARBOR, Hawaii, May 21, 2001 - The $135-million, three-hour movie premiered on
a screen six stories high on the deck of the Navy's newest nuclear-powered aircraft
carrier, which is moored a few hundred yards from ground zero of the Dec. 7, 1941,
bombing raid that brought the United States into World War II.  Faith

the USS John C. Stennis --So many sightings, so little time. Actors Dan Aykroyd
and Tom Sizemore showed the Navy how to rock, commandeering the stage at Disney's
mega-spectacular, $5-million "Pearl Harbor" premiere.
Country/pop star Faith Hill started out evening by singing the “Star-Spangled
Banner” backed by an 80-piece orchestra. And Lee Greenwood belt out "I'm Proud
to Be an American" during one of the biggest fireworks shows ever. |
In
addition to the usual suspects who turn up at every premiere, high-ranking officers
from every one of America's armed forces as well as several Pearl Harbor survivors
were feted at this incredible premiere.
